Spot the Difference!

Issue #35: 19/04/2024 Barrow Hills School What's Been Happening

What a difference three weeks makes!

The snowdrops have gone, and the daffodil flowers are looking sad and have started to dry up. But, they have been replaced, with colourful tulips and bluebells!

We have learnt some facts about bluebells this week: the different colours, species, size and smell!

Bluebells can be blue, pink or white. Native bluebells have flowers that hang to one side and are sweet scented. Spanish bluebells have flowers that hang all around the stem and don’t have any scent. They are usually bigger than the native variety. The smell from the native bluebells attracts the attention of pollinating insects!

Also, hundreds of tiny tree saplings have emerged on the forest floor since we were last there and new leaves are bursting open on the bare tree branches. We also found a lone cowslip flower in the middle of our playground. The cowslip is the county of Surrey’s flower!
