Year 2 Get Arty

Issue #35: 19/04/2024 Barrow Hills School What's Been Happening

We had an exciting art lesson this week where we learnt about Jean-Michel Basquiat and used some of his techniques to create abstract self-portraits. The children listened to different pieces of music to help inspire their mark making with pastels to create colourful backgrounds for their portraits. They then used graphite sticks to draw themselves. It was so lovely to see the children really concentrating on the music and getting really creative with bold colours.

Jean-Michel Basquiat was a prominent American artist in the late 20th century, known for his Neo-expressionist and graffiti-inspired artwork. Born in 1960, Basquiat rose to fame in the 1980s New York art scene. Basquiat’s art is characterized by bold colors, dynamic brushwork, and a raw, expressive style. Basquiat’s legacy continues to influence contemporary art and culture, with his works fetching high prices at auctions and exhibitions worldwide.
