An Oscar for an Old Barrow Hillian!

Between 1981 and 1983, Barrow Hills was responsible for the education of multiple-award winning director, Christopher Nolan. Considered a leading film maker of the 21st century with films such as The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar and Dunkirk. In 2024 Christopher Nolan has been honoured with the British Film Institute Fellowship, and just days ago won an Oscar for Best Director for the film, Oppenheimer.

Paul Crisell, former pupil and current Deputy Head of Barrow Hills, remembers Christopher Nolan well: ‘He was in the year above me. I have a lasting memory of a play he was in called ‘The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew’. He even managed to find a picture for us.

Dear Christopher, from all of us at Barrow Hills, (very excited to think about the future stars we are currently nurturing), many congratulations on your Oscar win. If you are ever in the area, please do pop in – you will still be able to tread on the same stage boards you did so many years ago!
